Courses

Training built around the workflow of a real project — from the first question you ask to the decision the model supports. Every course is applied: you finish with something you can run on your own work.

Live & on-demand

WBEM — Whole Building Energy Modelling

Live cohort

The flagship MaedX course. A full modelling workflow end to end: setting up geometry and zoning, choosing assumptions you can defend, running and reading results, and comparing design options that change a real decision.

Energy Modeling Workflows Fundamentals

Beginner

The foundation course. What a model is actually for, how a workflow is structured, and the habits that separate a model that informs a decision from one that just produces numbers.

Beginner Self-paced Online, on demand

Climate Analysis for Architects

Intermediate

Read a climate file properly and turn it into design moves — orientation, shading, ventilation strategy — before any energy model is built.

Intermediate Self-paced Online, on demand

LCA for Low-Carbon Building Design

Advanced

Embodied and operational carbon across the life cycle: scope, boundaries, data quality, and how to compare material and system choices honestly.

Advanced Self-paced Online, on demand

HVAC Modelling & Load Calculations

In development

Systems modelling for people who model buildings: load calculations, system selection, and the assumptions that quietly drive your results.

Advanced In development Online

Python for Building Performance

In development

Automate the repetitive parts of a modelling workflow — parametric runs, results parsing, and clear reporting — without becoming a software engineer.

Intermediate In development Online

How the courses work

  1. Built on a project, not a menu

Each course follows one project from question to decision, so the sequence you learn is the sequence you'll use.

  2. Assumptions are the lesson

Software changes; judgement doesn't. Most of the teaching is about what you feed a model and why.

  3. You leave with your own artefacts

Templates, checklists and a worked model you keep and reuse on the next job.

Common questions

Which software do I need?

The workflows are tool-agnostic and demonstrated in the tools most teams already have. Where a specific tool is required, the course page says so before you enrol and free or trial versions are used wherever possible.

Do I need a background in simulation?

Not for the Fundamentals course. Intermediate and advanced courses assume you have built at least one model before, in any tool.

Are sessions recorded?

Yes. Live cohorts are recorded and the recordings stay available to participants, so a missed session or a different time zone is not a problem.

Can my team take a course together?

Yes — team and university rates are available, and any course can be delivered as a private workshop shaped around your own projects. See workshops

Is there a certificate?

Participants who complete a course receive a certificate of completion. confirm CPD / accreditation status
